Urticaria (Hives) and Homeopathy in Brampton: Triggers and Individualized Care

Urticaria, commonly called hives, causes sudden raised itchy bumps or patches on the skin. Individual hives usually disappear within 24 hours, but new ones can continue to appear. When hives recur for more than six weeks, the condition is considered chronic urticaria. Apollo Homeopathy Clinics in Brampton evaluates recurrent cases in detail to identify each patient’s individual pattern and possible triggers.

Why do hives occur?

Hives develop when histamine and other chemicals are released in the skin. Possible triggers include allergic reactions, infections, medications, insect stings, heat, cold, sweating, sunlight, pressure and stress. In many people with chronic spontaneous urticaria, a single external trigger cannot be identified.

Clinical features

Hives can be intensely itchy, warm, burning or stinging. They may be small or form large raised patches and can appear anywhere on the body. Some people also develop deeper swelling called angioedema, often affecting the eyelids or lips.

How Apollo individualizes homeopathic care

We document when the hives appear, how long each episode lasts, the exact sensation, temperature sensitivity, pressure or food associations, infections, medication history, stress, sleep, digestive and general symptoms, and whether angioedema occurs. The homeopathic prescription is selected from the complete individual pattern. Patients are encouraged to continue medically necessary antihistamines or other prescribed treatment unless their prescribing clinician advises a change.

How long can recurrent urticaria take?

Acute hives and chronic spontaneous urticaria are very different clinical situations. Long-standing recurrent hives, frequent angioedema, multiple physical triggers or associated medical conditions may require longer follow-up and coordinated medical care.

Published homeopathy research

A published observational study followed 60 Japanese patients receiving individualized homeopathic treatment for chronic skin disease; the group included six patients with chronic urticaria and reported patient- and clinician-observed improvements across the broader skin-disease cohort (PMID 17544862). Because this was observational and the urticaria subgroup was small, it should be viewed as preliminary evidence rather than proof of efficacy.

Important: when hives are an emergency

Swelling of the tongue or throat, trouble breathing, trouble swallowing, faintness or other signs of a serious allergic reaction require emergency medical care immediately.
